What helps us most

Before you ring (731) 202-9868, gather:

  • Highway and direction of travel, plus the nearest junction
  • Which county you think you are in, if you know
  • Unit type and weight class
  • Load and any placards
  • What failed, and who pays: driver, fleet, broker or insurer

The dispatcher gives an honest arrival estimate on the call.

US 79 across the south side

The McKenzie page puts US 79 southeast of the town center, leading 17 miles northeast to Paris and 20 miles southwest to Milan. The SR 22 route description lists an interchange between SR 22 and US 79 northeast of the center. For a driver, US 79 is the east-west trucking corridor and SR 22 is the north-south one. A tractor-trailer that stops at the junction can block both, so we ask which road you are on and whether you are in a ramp or a lane.

SR 22 along the east side

SR 22 runs through the east side of McKenzie and leads about 25 miles northwest to Martin and about 10 miles southeast to Huntingdon. The SR 22 article lists a US 79/SR 76 interchange at mile 90.7 and describes the road as divided again after it leaves McKenzie. Divided highway helps a recovery, because the wrecker can work from the median side when the shoulder is soft. It also means traffic is fast, and we bring flashing lights, cones and advance warning every time.

Where the railroads crossed

McKenzie was surveyed and platted in 1865 on land belonging to James McKenzie and was incorporated on January 22, 1869. The town grew where the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad crossed the Louisville and Memphis Railroad, at a station first called McKenzie Station. Rail crossings still mean low-slung trailers hanging up on humped pavement. We carry the equipment to lift a high-centered trailer clear and do not drag it. Never stay in a truck stuck on a crossing. Get out, move away from the tracks and call 911, then call us.

Fuel containers and blow molding

VP Racing Fuels announced in November 2021 that it would acquire a facility in McKenzie near the Carroll County Airport, add blow mold machinery to make motorsport containers and apparel, and create 150 jobs. Plastic containers ship in tall, light loads on box trucks and dry vans. They roll, they tip in crosswinds and they spill at the dock. Tell us whether your load is empty, partial or full when you call.

Bethel University and schools

Bethel University and the Tennessee College of Applied Technology are in McKenzie. Buses and delivery trucks turn around on the town grid, and these units need careful hook-ups, with particular attention to air brakes and low overhangs.
